Reminder: The South Plateau Road is open for skiers. All skiers should access the South Plateau through the Rendezvous Arch only. The road is closed to all skier-vehicles, but hunters and wood cutters have access. Please use caution while skiing on the road and respect any vehicles who may be headed up there for hunting or wood gathering. South Plateau, aprox 20 KM of classic, some sketchy, most decent. Skiers must access the South Plateau by skiing through the In & Out.
The road is closed to all skier-vehicles. Idaho is open snowmobile traffic, so be careful. Hunter and wood cutter traffic has access as needed. Rendezvous, Deja View, Volunteer, Jerry's, the doodle, Sprint loop, Sheppard's. Trails update for Monday:
The South Plateau Road from the Rendezvous Trails will be open for skiing. Please access the road only through the trailhead arch (we need to know our skier attendance for getting grooming funds!) The road is closed to all skier-vehicles. Idaho is open snowmobile traffic, so be careful. Hunter and wood cutter traffic has access as needed. The plan is to smooth, but not groom, the upper portion of the road in case we need to plow it for vehicular access later in the week. Whiskey trail is still pretty boney in spots with obsidian rocks and sand showing. We will do our best to set classic tracks on portions of the trails after the upper parking lot. Starting at 12:00 pm 11/19 the middle section of the 5km course will close. This is the section from Deja view going down Doug’s Doodle and continuing on Sheppard’s shortcut to the top of Tele Hill. The closure will remain in effect until snow conditions permit us to reopen without compromising the thin snow that we have. We will be adding snow to select locations on Monday and Tuesday to build upon the current base of snow. Thanks for all your support. Do your snow dance, please! South Plateau: YSF personnel will be working on the South Plateau today. DO NOT ski up the road until the opening announcement has been made. YSF reserves the right to revoke the passes of any skiers skiing on this closed area.
Clear and cold, -11 F. Trails groomed: Rendezvous, Dead Dog, Biathlon Range, 5 KM race course, Sheppard's, Drewski, Stadium, and much of the South Plateau. The South Plateau will open tomorrow (Monday) with shuttles for skiers and a travel schedule (attached). Please be advised: The plateau does not have much more snow than town, but there will be places that classic can be set. Any exposed South facing slope has numerous rocks that have rolled of the side hills. Toss off what you can.. One inch of new snow. Groomed Rendezvous, Dead Dog, Deja View, Biathlon Range, Sprint loops, Drewski, Jerry's and the Doodle. Skate only, no classic yet. Night skiers after 9 so no more tonight.
No new grooming required. Skier packed conditions are fast and carvy with no ice. Granular snow conditions. Pictures taken today on Deja View.
Today marks 1-week away from the start of the 2018 Yellowstone Ski Festival. There have been many inquiries about the conditions on the Rendezvous Ski Trails here in West Yellowstone. As of today, the trails have been rolled and finished. We have not groomed, but skier activity on the trails has helped to compact the snow, resulting in faster, early-season conditions. Reports from skiers indicate the skating is “good” and classic is “fair.”
Nighttime temperatures hover around zero degrees and often dip down to several degrees below zero. The low last night was -15ºF. Daytime temperatures are also working in our favor, rarely reaching above the freezing mark. These low temperatures help maintain the snow levels. Snow conditions are early season with cold, fast powder covering the trails. All trails except Windy Ridge are rolled and skiable. Area trails, including the Riverside, Boundary, and Frontier Trails are all in skiable condition. If necessary, there is plenty of snow on the secondary venue of the South Plateau. In the event that the snow on the Rendezvous Trails melts out, there will be skiing on the South Plateau. However, at this time, our focus remains on the Rendezvous Trails. The next pulse of moisture is predicted for Thursday night into Friday morning. We will post more information following the result of that potential storm. We are looking forward to another exciting, fun-filled week. The evening activities at the Holiday Inn offer something for everyone.
