2023 Yellowstone Rendezvous

Our goal

One of the ways WYSEF shares its passion for Nordic skiing is by developing programs for school-aged children. Our ski team is unique in that it is financially supported through a partnership between the West Yellowstone School District and WYSEF. Our goal is to make Nordic skiing as accessible as possible for local school-aged children. Scroll down for more information on our programs.

Devo Team

8-11 year olds

Our goal is to keep skiing and time on the snow fun and engaging, and to that end we utilize a play based approach. Practices are loosely structured, always starting with a warm up, (e.g., dynamic stretching or an easy ski), followed by some technique work (e.g., poling instruction, stride technique instruction, speed work depending on the athletes). The last part of the training day, a structured game is played that involves coordination and agility, and learning to maneuver on skis in a non-traditional way.

Practice Schedule

November 16 - March 5

4:00 - 5:30 pm, Mondays and Wednesdays

Comp Team

10-18 year olds

The Competition Team is designed for skiers who are interested in training and improving their skiing on technical and competitive levels. The goal of the program is to encourage each skier to commit to a goal and embrace the journey, whether that is increasing endurance, speed or fine tuning technique. Our objective at WYSEF is to keep this journey fun and challenging by incorporating all the different aspects of a more committed practice as well as enjoying time with friends, building teamwork and playing games.

Summer Training

11 - 18 year olds

WYSEF offers summer training with a pretty flexible schedule.  As the saying goes, nordic skiers are made in the summer. To keep in athletic shape for the nordic season it is important to maintain that throughout the year. Summer is a great opportunity to cross train with biking, running, hiking, swimming and roller skiing to keep our athletes in shape. We are lucky here in West Yellowstone to have the Short Line Trail to add distance roller skiing to our list of activities.

During the summer of 2022, U14 comp team members were able to go to an IMD Summer Training Camp at Homestake Pass, MT. This was a great opportunity for them to meet, and train with athletes their own age from other IMD teams.
