Don Camp lives in Grand Haven, MI and has been a teacher and coach for 35 years. He coached swimming for 25 years and has many High School state champions, state records, HS all Americans, and one National HS record to his credit. He also created and ran one of the first High School cycling clubs in MI, which became the source for many state, national, and even one world Jr. Mountain Biking Champion. He began alpine skiing when he was 13 with leather boots and wooden skis and claims his XC equipment nowadays is 10 times better than what he learned to alpine ski on. He fell in love with Nordic skiing in the early 70’s while he was racing bicycles and has never been able to find a winter long enough to make him tired of skiing. He began his annual Thanksgiving pilgrimages to West in 1986 as a member of the Fischer/Salomon marathon team and continued for several years. In 1989, Dick Hunt asked him coach at the Fall camp and he has ever since. He has had the great fortune to learn from and work with some of the best coaches in North America; Marty Hall, Sven Wik, Torbjorn Karlsen, Sten Fjeldheim, Jon Aalberg, John Downing, way too many to name, but many are current camp staff members. He has written for the Master skier, develo ped XC trails and parks in MI, conducted countless clinics, and continues to travel the world, skiing, cycling, and watching the best. His goal is to have perfect technique when he turns 80.
